You all have probably heard the news that new Casualty episodes will be released early on BBC iPlayer at 6am on the day of broadcast. It is now 30 December, and "Tinderbox" is available to watch on iPlayer rignt now.
So, basically, how do we want to approach this? There will no doubt be a lot of people who want to watch new episodes live on BBC One, but there is of course the temptation to take advantage of the morning releases to do write-ups and basically get it all banged out in a day. Believe me, I definitely know that temptation; I'm currently writing up a detailed plot description for "Tinderbox" (in a sandbox page, of course) and given its one-off characters red links.
We have three options:
We add in-universe information from new episodes to articles as soon as the episodes drop on iPlayer, and mark spoilers where necessary.
We build up new articles, additions to biographies, plot descriptions outside the article namespace (i.e. in User subpages). It's generally a no-no to edit other users' subpages, so each draft should have editing permissions explicitly stated to avoid conflicts. Images would be uploaded after the BBC One airing.
We keep everything off the wiki entirely until the episode finishes airing on BBC One.
I'm personally in favour of option 2. Unregistered users generally won't have access to user subpages unless they know what they're looking for, and it would give us time to prepare pages properly and avoid the mad scramble that typically happens after the airing of a major episode.
